Some residents of Swansboro are concerned about tattoo and piercing shops opening in their community. The city council is considering requiring these businesses to obtain licenses. The requirements would include a $1 million liability insurance policy, requiring certification to tattoo or pierce and limiting hours of operation. Several local business owners are opposed to the proposed requirements. Connie Asero, executive director of the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association, spoke at a recent council meeting to voice her concerns about the proposed requirements.
Ernie Hussey, a Morehead City citizen, said the proposed requirements reminded him of a dictatorship. He later clarified his remark and added that he recognizes the right to free enterprise.
